Pakistan has a great history of handicrafts. The province Khyber Pakhtunkhawa has a rich importance in handicrafts. Because, it reflects the culture and tradition of KPK. These handicrafts spread out the quality of beauty and show the inherited skills of Pashtuns people. There are many famous handicrafts of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa.

Brass Work:

Brass work is a very popular craft of Peshawar. This handcraft is known all over the country because of its detailed carving and the quality of being intricate. Brass work is commonly make by the use of  household items which include plates, vases, bowls, flower pots, candle stands, goblets, spoons, etc. People are giving brass items to their daughters as a part of their dowry. Brass work is the top priority of all handicrafts of Peshawar. Brass work is done on many things like household things of daily use to decoration pieces.

Rosary

The people of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa are Muslims. They use rosary beads for reciting the different name of God to obtain the world peace and spiritual healing. It is a beautiful art to make rosary in which beads of stone or various precious material are used. Pashtuns are making with different and unique way with different stones.

Karoshia Work:

Karoshia work is a specialty of the artisans which represent the famous handicrafts of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa. People are choosing a unique way of doing it. A special needle with a small hook at one side is used to knit the threads into the fabric. Different kinds of products made from using this technique are caps, tablecloth, mantelpieces and other garments. From the ancient times hand fans and sweaters are also knitted using this method.

Wood Work:

Wood work is of the very famous profession. It can be use from back in the days but it is still done in some parts of KPK. Different kinds of wood like walnut and chinar etc is carved and to make more attractive doors, pillars and frames of the door. Nowadays woodwork is also used to make tables and other furniture pieces. It has been a very old profession and adopted from the ancient times. Peoples played a role of carpenter and made their wood house

Gumanz

It is a professional work and famous handicraft of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa making combs from wood. Now-a-days it is replaced by plastic combs. But hand made combs are represented the religious duties. There are two kinds of combs made of wood. One for is used of combing hair and other for combing beard at the time of ablution. It is a very old craft and profession in the Pashtoon areas.

Woolen Carpets:

Woolen carpets are the best gift which is made on special looms (khadi) and are also made by hand weaving. This famous handicraft of Khyber PakhtunKhawa has replaced the use of synthetic carpets. The people of KPK that still practices weaving by the hand looms. These kinds of carpets can be export all over the world.

Chapli:

Chapli is one of the traditional footwear. It is one of the most common and popular handicrafts of KPK. The demand of the chapli footwear is proudly used all over Pakistan. Although, the footwear is a specialty of Charsadda. Basically it is manufactured in Peshawar, being the capital city of the province. The footwear, named as Peshawari Chappal, which is manufactured in “Mochi Larah” and “Jahangir Pura” bazaars.

KullahDozi

Usually Kullah Dozi is the art of the professionals. It is done like cap for the elder and senior people. Simple Kullah is made artistically from wheat and straw. The lower part of the Kullah is made of valvet. The inner portion of Kullah is stitched with silky cloth. There are different variety of caps and kullah using now a days. The children would like to use in occasions

TillaKari

This art has been use a profession of cobblers. Tilla Kari is still being practised as professional in different places. Panrha is one of the handicraft foot wear for women and special panraha for men is also made by using Tilla kari. One of the men foot wear is also called ‘tsaplai’. All of these are made with tilla, which is used golden and different shinning thread. It is a remarkable art and famous handicraft of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa.
